17/04/2016 : Yeovil Town Official Statements : Preview Plans To Develop Huish Park Stadium
17 April 2016 : Preview Plans To Develop Huish Park Stadium
Yeovil Town Football Club and Yeovil Town Holdings Limited are pleased to announce the latest developments in their plans to bring much needed additional revenue opportunities and improvements, including spectator facilities, to the stadium at Huish Park.

A planning application has already been submitted to South Somerset District Council (SSDC) and some amendments are now being proposed as a result of discussions with the SSDC departments and statutory consultation parties.

David Bell, Agent for the planning application, said “We are very aware that it was necessary for the application to go quiet in the public domain for a while whilst these further discussions were held.

“I have kept in touch with some fellow supporters but this does not replace releasing information into the public domain. The main aim of this preview is to keep in touch now that certain matters have been resolved and firm changes can be proposed.”

Proposed changes to the application include match day supporter facilities, flexible space for the existing academy (also allowing further opportunities to work with Yeovil College), the removal of 5,000m2 of retail unit and an increase in size and the relocation of the proposed hotel and leisure facilities to the north-western area of the stadium site.

Match day parking for Away Fans is relocated and the main club car park on the Western Avenue side of the stadium remains as existing.

Preview plans of the northern and southern areas are can be viewed by clicking here and the club expects formally to submit finalised details to SSDC over the next few weeks. This will involve planning and traffic matters amongst other detail.

Chairman John Fry said: “The proposals will facilitate an improvement and expansion of many aspects of club and community life such as amenities for supporters, Ladies football, Community Trust and help the academy progress in the development of young players coming through the ranks towards our first team. However, we must not forget that revenue is king and it is crucial to the development of the club”.

David Bell, who is also a season ticket holder at the club, followed this up by saying: “Football, funding, rules, the match day and communications expectations of supporters have moved on a great deal in recent years.

“Facilities that were OK and fit for purpose in the late nineties are, in some cases, now outdated or not viable. Trips to other league grounds prove that we are by no means alone in this but the objective remains to get the best deal for the longer term future of Yeovil Town Football Club and supporter facilities are still high on the agenda”.
