29/06/2006 : Yeovil Town Company Matters : Fry In Optimistic Mood
29 June 2006 : Fry In Optimistic Mood
John Fry has been talking again about the Invest in Yeovil project, this time to the Western Gazette.

On this site we have a stadium that is now to League One standard but we do not want to hang about. We want to go further and develop the football and stadium alongside each other to enable us to achieve the bigger vision of Championship football.

We want our plans to be seen by the worldwide market and that is why we have developed an 'Invest in Yeovil' document which will also be supported by a website www.investinyeovil.com.

We need big investment and there will be further developments in bringing investors into the Huish Park Stadium Partnership and the club. This is a multi-million pound vision and even in the last few weeks we have had interest of a partner who will help bring more income streams into this football club and may be possible further developments on the site. As soon as we sign the document we will probably be able to release that information.

We feel that we are in the driving seat for the club to become a very important one in football in the West Country. We feel we have the expertise, the will, the history and the position in the League to strike out and achieve even more success.

The 'Invest in Yeovil' document will be sent out to the 15 to 20 investors who have already made inquiries about the club and they will all be dealt with in the correct way.

Fry was bullish on the thorny question of covenants that has dogged previous plans for the club :

It is a difficult one because of the covenants on the site but we will get those moved. In my opinion the vision of Yeovil will move them. The people of Yeovil will want to develop the stadium and the club which could one day become a Premiership outfit. Who knows, we might do a Wigan Athletic.

When asked about the timescale for the club's new vision, the chairman said :

I have not got the time to wait another 20 years for the next piece of development to take place here, but we have got to do it with the usual caution. A lot depends on how quick people respond to this 'Invest in Yeovil' and it will be up to that partnership to move things forward. Realistically you are talking in the next ten years, but the launch is underway and people will come forward.
