Now into the second week of the transfer window, plenty of movement is now starting to be seen around all of the League One sides, even if an equal number appear to be still up in the air - most notably Lee Johnson's likely move to Scottish Premiership side Hearts.

January opponents (subject to their FA Cup replay) Walsall are one of the busier sides in the division. Having already acquired midfielder Kevin James on loan from Nottingham Forest, they have also taken on loan Manchester United striker Mads Timm, who was a target for Yeovil Town earlier this season. Their third loan signing of the month is midfielder Michael Leary, who has come in from Championship side Luton Town. Manager Paul Merson has said of his two recruits: "Both players will add a great deal to our squad. Mads is an extremely talented young lad. If he hits top form he will set us alight. Michael is a box-to-box type of player who works hard and gets his foot in. I have been looking for someone like him for a long time."

Pity though Walsall's Daryl Taylor, who heads out on loan from the Bescot Stadium to midtable Conference side Hereford United. Defender Jonny Harkness has also had a bad weekend, with his contract at the club being terminated by mutual consent.

Midfielder David Noble has had his loan spell with Bristol Citys made permanent at Ashton Gate. The player was a Gary Johnson target at Hush Park and he now moves from Boston United for an undisclosed fee. Also undisclosed is Anthony Lloyd's move from Huddersfield Town, who joins Torquay United.

Goalkeeper Alan Blayney is one of two big money movers of the last few days with Doncaster Rovers paying 50,000 pounds for the Southampton goalkeeper. Meanwhile the name of Jonathan Forte will be familiar to all Donny fans, having spent time on loan earlier this season from Sheffield United. The 19 year old striker is now back on loan again, this time to Rotherham United who are trying to plug last week's loss of top scorer Deon Burton.

Top spenders over the weekend were Swansea City who have paid 125,000 pounds for the services of Brighton and Hove Albion striker Leon Knight, as a means to plug the gap caused by an injury to Lee Trundle. However Chairman Huw Jenkins claims the Swans will be getting in more strikers adding: "We're still pursuing strikers and have bids in with three clubs at the moment, hopefully one will come off in a few days."

Sean Doherty has joined Port Vale from Dutch side ADO Den Haag on a free transfer. Vale manager Martin Foyle said of the former Fulham trainee: "Sean is an exciting player who can go forward on the left - we need his quality. He has represented England at different levels, but at the moment he needs to play games."

Finally all Glovers fans will know full well about Efetobore Sodje's surprise exit from Huish Park for an undisclosed fee to League One leaders Southend United. At present he is only on loan at Roots Hall but this will be converted to a permanent transfer shortly.

Two movements outside League One of interest to Glovers fans. Former loan left-back Ronnie Bull has left New Zealand Knights to join League Two strugglers Rushden and Diamonds. Meanwhile former midfielder Neil Mustoe is currently acting as caretaker manager of Southern League Premier Division side Gloucester City.
