12/12/2007 : Yeovil Town Official Statements : New Chief Executive At Huish Park
12 December 2007 : New Chief Executive At Huish Park
Yeovil Town Chairman and Chief Executive John Fry has announced today he will be relinquishing his Chief Executive role with effect from Monday of next week.

"After 15 years at the club as a director, fourteen of which have been in the dual role of Chairman and Chief Executive, I feel now is a good time to make the move to allow me more time to concentrate on the task of developing the Club and the Huish Park site for the challenges ahead.

"We have created a stable environment at Huish Park, something we have enjoyed over the last few years, and having secured the services of manager Russell Slade until 2011 it is the right time to make changes" said Mr. Fry.

"Back in the 2005/06 season we had the loss of manager Gary Johnson, the loss of two owners and several players out of contract.

"That was not the sort of situation that you need at a football club, but since Russell Slade arrived and after bringing back stability to Huish Park, we have enjoyed an unparalleled period of success with probably the best match in the clubs history at Nottingham, together with a visit to the Play-off final at Wembley.

"We have proven that we can operate at the highest level in football. To progress, we now need to develop the Stadium and the football resources, including a young player scheme. To help achieve our mission aims we shall be looking for the new person to take over from myself the day to day running of the club whilst I focus on developing new policies and resources at Huish Park.

Martyn Starnes will take over as the new Chief Executive with the responsibility of overseeing all football related affairs at the club working hand in glove with John Fry and Russell Slade.

Martyn had a 12 month spell at Huish Park back in 2003 before moving on to develop his Chief Executive football administration experience elsewhere culminating at Swindon Town FC where he was promoted to the role of Chief Executive.

He has local ties having lived in the area for many years and was manager of Sherborne Town Football Club following a spell as a player in the semi-professional game.

Mr Fry continued, "After bringing considerable success to the club in my role as Chief Executive over the past 14 years,I look forward to having the time to take on fresh challenges at the club, in particular to developing football in Somerset, for future generations of young players.

"I also look forward to working with Martyn again. He is a thoroughly professional person, and I am confident the club will continue its progress in The Football League under our joint leadership.

"This is a very positive more for the future of Yeovil Town Football Club".

Martyn Starnes was equally upbeat about his appointment: "I am absolutely delighted that John Fry has offered me the opportunity to return to Huish Park and work with him on the continued progression of Yeovil Town FC.

"John and his colleagues over the years have developed an excellent model for any football club to follow and it is my intention to maintain and build on the strategies that are already in place, "I am looking forward to commencing my role next week and re-engaging with the staff and fans alike"

Mr Fry will also be transferring a substantial amount of his control in the Huish Park Stadium Company to former Yeovil Town FC director Norman Hayward. Mr Fry will retain 51% control of the shareholding of this company.

Mr Hayward was a majority shareholder/director at Huish Park in the 1990s and was responsible among other things for the building of the Carlsberg Stand, switching the club to full time status and bringing David Webb to the club to establish the bench mark of professional football .

This he achieved with considerable success.

He took a keen interest in the development of the Youth and Reserve teams at the club and was a major contributor to their past success in the Screwfix Direct League.

Speaking of his new involvement Mr Hayward said today; "I am looking forward to getting more involved again with Chairman John Fry and the club.

"I have been a keen supporter of John Fry during his 15 years at Huish Park and its great to see the club succeeding in the Football League.

"I have spent a life time involved with football at grassroots and professional levels. What has been achieved under the leadership of John Fry, has been remarkable, and this has inspired me to be part of this great club again. There is still so much to do to keep League Football at Huish Park and I want to be part of this"
