By far the most negative rating in the survey was that on transparency of information coming from the club, with 45% rating transparency as ‘terrible’.

The fact that 9 out of 10 respondents rated it as either ‘poor’ or ‘terrible’ suggests a major issue that the club should seek to understand in more detail.

Clearly recent announcements have done little to improve the feelings of a lack of transparency from the club.

Supporter comments raised around this area included:

One of the key areas for improvement and for any of the above to work is transparency from the Board regarding finances. There is a lack of trust between the fans and the Board and that must be addressed at the earliest opportunity. (9)

Off the field the new projects and communications that are presented to the media seem to be short of the mark and when the board / directors are asked (sensible) questions they go hiding. This naturally leaves supporters sceptical and also leads them to speculate on what is really going on. This will damage the club. The directors need to be more open and transparent where they can, at present this is non-existent (44)

As like many fans, a major concern I have is the relationship with the fans and the lack of communication/transparency at the club. (73)

I think the main problem with YTFC at the moment is the lack of communication, but the "dealings" of late are extremely worrying. A lack of transparency, and again, communication, had made many fans wary of the future. YTFC need to be more transparent, they need to improve their marketing strategies and funding avenues but not through dodgy dealings that no one has a clue what’s going on!! (88)

The club also needs to keep supporters aware of how the new stand/retail park development and, as things start to happen, the new pitches development is progressing. At present this is a matter of almost total silence. If the club stop giving information supporters begin to loose interest in the club very quickly. (97)

I know not everything can be revealed but I feel 'only the privileged' get to know and not only does that dampen my enthusiasm for YTFC, it concerns me why the supporters aren't informed. (106)

From my significant business experience the worst form of communication is NO communication because uninformed interested parties will always come up with their own opinions/stories which will normally be worse than the reality. There were many examples of badly thought out, badly timed and paranoid outpourings but that has been replaced with no communication or vague platitudes that seem to assume all supporters are ignorant or negative or both. (108)
