7a. Overall View Of Future Plans

There is currently much concern among the 254 respondents to the survey about the future direction of the club. With less than 1 in 10 feeling enthusiastic about the club’s future plans the management team would be advised to do what they can to help enthusiasm return.

Three-quarters of respondents are ‘somewhat concerned’ or ‘extremely worried’ about the club’s future plans and this would appear to be driven by concerns over changes to the corporate structure of the club.

Supporter comments raised around this area included:

1. I want to know what Norman Hayward's future intentions are? 2. If He doesn't speak to the fans and share his intentions with us I feel he and John Fry should step aside and give some one else a chance to move this club forward on and off the field. (7)

More information on what is going on at the club- uncertainty with what is going on at the club leads to fan unrest! Most fans would back the club/board/owners/management if we knew what was going on with the club! (16)

Is there a 5 year or 10 year strategic plan, or even a vision, on the boardroom table? If the board doesn't have one it will never know in which direction to go, or whether it has been successful or not. (113)


7b. Retail Park and Artificial Pitches

New enterprises such as the BSI artificial pitch project and retail park / new stand project do instil some enthusiasm. That being said, the relatively low level of enthusiasm, which is out-weighed by concerns, ought to be addressed before either of these projects are moved forward.

These kinds of announcements are only positive in the long-term with the correct marketing, PR, media communications and a level of transparency that engenders trust from supporters. The club should guard against using them for a short-term feel-good factor.

Supporter comments raised around this area included:

Why are we messing around with new artificial pitches? If the club is going to move forward, money needs to be invested on players and match day experience etc.! (19)

I would like to see a benefactor come in and invest in players and not new artificial pitches and trips to the States pre season as nice as this is that should be an added extra when the club is financially stable. (25)

BSI - concerned over both what they get from this deal and the quality of the product on offer. Internet research reveals that the BSI owners company has installed pitches that are so poor the can be "ripped by hand" and had no drainage during the first year's use. (46)

Why are we getting involved in third parties, what is there motive is it clear? (116)
