12 July 2011 : Yeovil 2 Inverness 4 : Review Of The Trialists No.1
Tonight had very many reasons to look forward to the new season, which may seem quite suprising to hear with the recent departure to the numerous amount of players we have let go at Yeovil Town Football Club.

I shall start from the back line, as we all know people such as Max Ehmer have returned to their parents club after a successful loan spell and extended a one year deal with QPR. In addition to this we have added another centre-back in the form of Bondz N'Gala. N'Gala stood out tonight for me as he looked strong, tall and had some speed too, he is also still very young. He only played in the first half tonight but this was the half where we had only let in 1 goal. Statistics do prove a lot. With our creative shape of what looked to me a 5-2-1-2 formation he slotted in well as the right-centre-back, with our well known Luke Ayling holding the defensive line as centre-back next to him.

Now I shall move on to another recent departure which seems to me has been fitted very, very well. This is the departure of our own bred Craig Alcock to Peterborough. In replacement we have added on trial Aaron Lescott. You all may know him as Joleon Lescott's younger brother and former Bristol Rovers RB. Aaron somehow reminds me of Craig as he is the same stature, he has the same mix of speed and defensive hold which also being able to bomb up the lines, Aaron produced the second goal with a cross into Ed Upson to put us 1-0 ahead. Having said all of this I really hope Skiverton signs up this lad as he looks a very good asset to our team.

Yet Another loss must be replaced, and yet again I would like to point out I think we have scouted well in finding Alan O'Brien - a very fast left-midfield as a replacement for Andrew Welsh who has departed to Carlisle United. In my opinion O'Brien seems a better player than Welshy. But who knows from first sight. We must see how the team connects with each other first of all, as O'Brien was in the second half squad and has to fit in with the first half squad.

I would like to give you an all round fact file of Alan O'Brien. O'Brien has represented the Republic Of Ireland at full international level five times, this was all conceived while he was on the books of Newcastle United. O'Brien suffered a leg and knee injury while playing for Newcastle and Hibernian, after his release by Hibernian O'Brien signed for Swindon Town in the season of 2009-10. O'Brien had been released by Swindon Town manager Paul Hart and only made one appearance for them under his reign. This now leads him up to his trial with us. Do not worry my friends, their loss is our gain!

With our top goalscorer and fans favourite Dean Bowditch looking to recuperate his career back and hit the high road onto success again he has made the jump into promotion chasing Milton Keynes Dons. This has left us empty handed as he went on a free transfer. So piling on the suggestions on 'Twitter' to Terry Skiverton popped up the name 'Kieran Agard'. Kieran Agard was a youngster at Everton and made one appearance for them and last season went out on loan spells to Peterborough and Kilmarnock. Kieran Agard impressed me with his fast feet and good control along with his agility to turn players. In my opinion I thought Kieran had a good first game and should have been awarded a penalty when he turned a player in the box to be pushed to the floor. Kieran seemed to be on the floor a lot, but this was due to the fact that players kept taking him down as his speed was too much for them. He looks very promising and a good figure to have up the front. Against Inverness CT he linked up rather well with Gavin Williams and Nathan Jones.

These were the four players that I wanted to write about mainly as a starter. But I would like to include the keeper we have on trial and who played both halves of the game, Bertrand Bossu who I believe we played against whilst he was at Hayes - correct me if I'm wrong. He is a very tall lad and posses good shot stopping ability, but he seemed rather nervous today and in my opinion could have kept the fourth goal out, instead of diving to his side he fell onto his back, stumbled by the finesse shot of the player in front of goal. But apart from that he has a very accurate and long kick which with the likes of O'Brien and Agard's pace and Gavin Williams through balls could prove very handy!

One more player I would like to bring into the limelight on this occasion was our servant Nathan Jones. He played on the left of the defence as a left-wing-back and attacked the left hand side of the channel in the first half very well. I don't recall him ever losing the ball once in the first half that he played and connected rather well with the likes of Gavin Williams and Kieran Agard on left upfront. I would personally like to see Nathan Jones figure more frequently in this coming season as not only is he able to with his high standard of fitness but it would bring experience and motivation into the team as he is, as we all know, assistant manager. But saying this I think we do need to invest into a new left-back in replace of Nathan Smith as we can't always rely on Nathan Jones as he is becoming more frequently past his age.

The last players I would like to discuss my thoughts on are Andrew Williams and Edward Upson. They are both on professional contracts with us and are two different players in many ways. Andrew Williams frequently figured in the early parts of the season for us and was one point our top goal scorer when we were having a horrid time at the foot of the table. He seemed to be a revelation in hard work, skill and goal getting for us. But then all of a sudden after Skivo had pulled some strings and got some loan signings in he seemed to be a frequent bench warmer. I am not too sure whether he had suffered an injury, but I heard slight rumours that he had and never really got his match fitness back.

However tonight he looked very sharp on the right side of the strikers next to Agard and proved his worth yet again. Andrew also nearly had a rewards for his hard efforts after having a glancing header just hit the roof of the net. Now onto Ed Upson, last season he barely participated much into the team until the latter stages of the campaign, so I could not get a real judgement on what he was like as a player, but tonight he shown some good foot work in the middle of the pitch with Paul Wotton and just behind Gavin Williams and linked the balls out to the wide men of Nathan Jones, and Aaron Lescott, as well as slotting in Andy Williams and Kieran Agard. He looks also very promising to the team for the new season which is fastly approaching us.

Having taken in all of the up side of the highlights for me tonight, the second half was not as promising as the first half, except for O'Brien. I lost interest throughout the second half and started to revel in the skills of the Inverness players and the way they were passing through our midfield. With the approaching match against Truro away on Saturday which I should be attending I think we need to field our first half team for 60+ minutes and include O'Brien in it, although I think we should stick with the same formation which allows Jonesy and Lescott to attack the wings. Skiverton's new formation that he stuck through the first half one was a very risky but very good move. (5-2-1-2).

In addition to this I believe that Yeovil and Terry Skiverton need to keep firm eyes on more players who are going out and need to BUY and seal a contract on an extra striker, a left-back and a right-midfield and loan in two or three players. With the additions of snapping up the trialists I said as well as some more that impress in later games.

With T Skiverton telling childrens stories about "boats" to the press/media just sums up his managerial skills. I think he will find that the boat is likely to run aground at the first swell and probably sink later. Come on Exeter!
