I have been supportive of Terry Skiverton (massively in the main - see what I did there?) because I have an instinct that he has got what it takes to succeed specifically as manager of Yeovil Town. His latest words on the Official Site, for which you will need Glovers Player to access, show his strong determination and passion to get us all to, er, row in unison and in the same direction. For those who don't subscribe, the Western Daily Press also carries the meat on the bones, whilst the transcript of the BBC Somerset portion is here.

The interview is an overall worthy rallying-to-the-cause with a few mixed messages, eg: reference to historic moaning doesn't seem good timing with the momentum and mood that he has admirably built on in recent weeks; mentions of the word 'political' actually introduces an off-pitch element the manager/team isn't tarnished with, when the purpose is to concentrate on supporting the team on the pitch; and what he is calling for (in terms of that support for the team on the field) he has in any case often praised the fans for providing, even before the turnaround.

I see his point though; it is vital to keep the momentum from being halted or deflected by off-pitch issues or a result that breaks this sequence. From that view he is serving his and his players' (and our) cause well.

With it coinciding with (eg) rumoured bids for the club, moves for a supporters' group, confusion and despair about the club's land, general and specific silence from the Board, worry about gates, etc, there is a hint of a hidden message against the pondering of such issues (albeit innocently contrived).

Just a little bit confusing in places, because I can't perceive that those fans who are prone to emotional booing at the drop of a hat are 'politically' intent. Clearly, serious off-pitch issues are in the air, but booing I would suspect is on a holiday in any case because of the recent run. As already mentioned, the manager has been consistently praising the support even in adversity. There has been a whisper but no more of making a pre-match stand because of concern about land deals and such like - but that is entirely disconnected with Skivo and his team on the pitch, and both management and fans should (and I'm sure would) strive to keep it that way. To be fair to his perspective, and as I mentioned above, I certainly understand his aim to keep his players away from off-field debates and distractions.

He has our continued full support, there is no grey area here, whether to be discovered or introduced. All hands were, and are, on deck for his purpose. I make no bones about not avoiding the issue here, because we have two clear scenarios between passionate allegiance to the manager and his team, and grave doubts and worry about the Board, that might otherwise get confused: one is clearly leading us like troops, the other like sheep.

Anyway, yes the core message is loud and clear for us to concentrate on the key need to continue with positivity, and I can sense his frustration at (eg) those that booed a player about to take a penalty as well as the potential detrimental effect of such a stupid action. Again though, a reference to a past episode (concerning Gavin Tomlin presumably) that was admittedly unfair and unwise seems out of step with the moment; conversely there is a point that a good spell such as this present one perhaps does allow an old gripe to be stated with more punch.

The over-riding passion and determination of Terry Skiverton certainly offers no confusion whatsoever: many of his leadership qualities are innate and thus easy to convey. I have no doubt that the support at both home and away games will answer his call for continued positivity.

We are indeed the wind for his sails (sorry, last one). The bottom-line (which this just about is) is this: we enthusiastically agree with what he wants and with identical passion for the task ahead. Hoarse throats definitely and another three points hopefully, tomorrow please.

If Skivo's interview points are about football in general, then I agree with it, although I'd wonder why it took up such a large portion of our own focus towards Rochdale. However, if - as I think is more likely - that his comments were aimed at the current Yeovil situation, then I think he's a step or two adrift of where things really are. Despite many supporters misgivings about the running of the club and of the league position, Skivo and his players have had terrific support at games this season, and far more than he would get at another L1 club in a similar position. Those who may have concerns about off the field issues have certainly not taken them into games. Has someone suggested that practice was imminent? If so then he's been given the wrong end of the stick. Of what he asks Yeovil fans to do, I'd say almost everyone is already doing it - there's some great support at the games, and where there are moans, they're being kept to the Green Room or to the bars. Yes, he's 100 percent right with the Tomlin incident, but that was brought up at the time, and hasn't been (to my knowledge) repeated since. Nothing is ever perfect with our support, but compared to what I hear of Swindon (calling for manager's head six months after he took them to Wembley), Walsall (demonstrations in the ground during the match against the board) etc we're absolute angels.

See on Skivo's pre match that Fat Harry seems to be stirring it again.
How wonderful it is to have such a man at the club.
For me Skivo has had a higher level of support than he might have done at other clubs.
Some of the performances this season have been so dire it is not surprising that the supporters have occasionally voiced displeasure.
Now we look as if we might turn the corner everyone quite naturally is far more positive and is really urging team on.
As Cruncher says the off field mess is discussed off field in Green Room etc.
Just concentrate on keeping us up Skivo and don't be drawn into the club's political games.

Re the penalty incident, are we sure he's not talking about Sam Williams at Plymouth? There were certainly some reaction (wrongly IMO) when he placed ball on the spot...

Yes could have been Sam, did ponder that, ISTR Skivo mentioning the GT one before. Still thinks it would leave the manager's message as just as confusing. Harping back to that SW pen, I think the indecision who was going to take it did highlight a significant error on the day.
